Concert Details
You can expect music, instrumentals, singing, dancing and poetry. The concert has evolved in the last couple of years. Initially promoting music within the immediate church community was the focus, now it is much more about engaging with community. In this current transition phase, we want to acknowledge key people that allowed the concert to be a success and provide a solid base for the future.
Reverend Wendy Snook got the ball rolling when she invited 'FolkUs', a talented local group that plays a wide range of wonderful music, to play at a quarterly concert in return for rehearsal space. From there it just got better and better. FolkUs has since disbanded and reformed with a new lineup as 'Cadence'. We value Cadence's involvement and want them maintain a strong presence in the future, even with a move from quarterly to monthly concerts. We value all our performers and recognise their contribution to the vibrancy of the community. We thank the many volunteers such as Roy, Trevor, Rosemary and many, many others who man the door, look after the sound system, make supper and undertake the many hidden tasks that make the night a success. They all deserve our gratitude. The funds generated by the concert help support the activities of the church which include amongst other things - The Food Truck. The Food Truck is a project that reaches out to the community aiming to meet real physical needs amongst us. The bright red truck we use, is a former Emergency Services catering vehicle (former CFA - Country Fire Authority) and distributes food to those in need, four times a week, in the Cranbourne area. For more details, visit the 'Church Website'.
For more details about FolkUS and other performers, go to the 'Performers' page. Voluntary performances are encouraged from the community and they make up the majority of the evening's entertainment. We encourage all performances types but particularly encourage those that enhance cross-cultural understanding and that promote strong healthy communities. We believe that everyone has a voice or a talent to share, and we want to create a safe space where people can do this in comfort. We encourage all to respect each other's input in whatever language or tradition. Ultimately, it is not so much about the fun we have or the beautiful music that is created in the concert, but about the stories we can share and the relationships that we can build.
All musical genres and performance styles are encouraged but acts must be suitable for general family viewing. We particularly welcome acts that promote cross-cultural understanding in both traditional and modern forms. The Cranbourne Concert were held quarterly, but has now commenced to a fixed monthly spot (with some exceptions), 7.30pm every 3rd Saturday of the month.
